A meet with Mr. Byrd

When I first saw Him I knew at once that we need to date some day:) I've stitched it with the recommended threads on one of my old own dyed 32 ct linen. I'd like to add some rustic effect with the finishing. Hope you like him just as much as I do!

Unusual Shaped Hanging Ornament Tutorial

I'd like to show you my method of making this rather unorthodox shaped hanging ornament.

1. As it is not easy to draw perfect half circles or an ellipse by hand, I use LibreOffice (MS Word or Publisher will do too) to make the scheme of the ornament. It will be very necessary to form the final shape of it.

2. Than I draw over the cutted form into a light cardboard (this case I used diet cookie package) and cut 2 over.

3. I use polyester bating to reach a quite cleared and even look for the finished ornie.

4. Now I'm positioning the stitched piece onto the bating covered cardboard. I cut off the edges and I put on two sided adhesieve for safety's sake :) (Safety first)

5. For some time past I'm using the original Aleene's Tacky Glue. It is great for projects like these, it won't get hard at once, but once it does, it won't come off and let go. I use it to fix the stitched piece onto the cardboard.

6. Next I'm glueing the backing and the stitched piece together and press it with some weight for about a half an hour.

7. Once it's ready I'm doing the cording (you can find a great twisted cording tuto here) and glue the cording around the ornie.

8. Taddaammm.

Pattern is a freebie from Marika Belfiori, you can find it here:

Thank you Marika!

I've worked on 32 ct Zweigart linen hand dyed by Barbaral in colour Vintage Caramel
I used my own dyed flosses except the orange which is Barbaral's Citrouille,
the white and the black of course. The golden thread is from Rainbow Gallery.

Blue Chickadee Freebie

My Sons favourite Hungarian folk-song inspired me to do this little design. It is about a nasty chickadee who sits on the ditch reed coated house and the host tries to shoo that little bird away angrily because of his fear of breaking off the reed rooftop. Hope you like it!

Poppy and stash time

I've fell in love with this cute poppy pattern at Danybrod's, so bought it a couple of weeks ago and I finished it yesterday. It took me longer time because of the alphabet, I wasn't so enthusiastic stitching it :) I worked on 28 ct white linen (what I've got as a present from Jucus, please correct me if I'm wrong, dear) with Barbaral's Lavender Stem, WDW's Pelican Grey (that nasty alphabet) and with one of my own dyed poppy colored reds with 1 over 1. I've never done so mini stitches before, but it was fun to do.
I'm always hesitating a lot with the finisings, but this was quite easy to decide. I've stuffed under the wreath with some foam filling and glued the stitched piece to the fabric covered board, now I can use it as a pincushion, but it is nice as an ornament as well I guess. Hope you like it!

You can see pretty clearly that little "bump" and the mini stitches as well.
I also purchased some linens from the talented Barbaral, look how beautiful are they one and all, I just love them! Thank you Barbara!

If you'd like some of these beauties check out Barbaral's Etsy shop here.

A soon to be gifted hornbook

I bought this hornbook in a kit ages ago, but I didn't really like the pattern with the kit so I've used the rose bouquet instead from the design Duo Roses et Oeillets (Tralala). I've emerized the wooden piece a bit, to reach a rather shabby look.
I've worked on 32 ct Creme Zweigart Belfast linen with the threads I've dyed myself.
I'd like to present it for one of my dear colleagues, hope she'll like it.
